What happened last weekend
- Port Everglades recorded its highest flooding since the tide station was installed in 2018, above Hurricane Nicole in 2022.
- Fort Lauderdale closed about two miles of A1A to traffic.
- Miami Beach saw Collins Avenue with water nearly at street level.
- Hollywood had the Broadwalk under several inches of saltwater.
Water came in about two feet above a normal high tide, with no hurricane and often with no rain. That is why king tides catch garages and ground floor doors by surprise.

When are the next king tides in South Florida?
Forecasts call for king tide periods from October 22 to November 12, November 22 to 29 and December 22 to 27, 2026. The October period is expected to bring the highest tides of the year.
Do sandbags work against king tide flooding?
Sandbags leak at every gap, take hours and several people to place, and end up wet, heavy and thrown out. A WDS aluminum barrier seals with rubber compression gaskets and one person sets it up in minutes, then stores it for the next tide.
How high can the barrier hold water?
The standard three panel barrier blocks about 26 inches of water. Taller openings get extra panels.
Can I put it on my garage, front door and patio doors?
Yes. We cut each barrier to the exact opening: single and double garages, front doors, back French doors, fire exits, elevator lobbies and parking garage entrances.
